Renovation of the Copper Plant Building Cologne
From a former copper factory to a modern office environment.
BEOS AG commissioned LIST BiB to convert an existing industrial hall into a new office space. The renovation project is located on the historic Carlswerk site on Schanzenstraße in Cologne-Mülheim. The site is increasingly evolving into a new urban neighborhood, into which the new office spaces, with their industrial chic, will fit perfectly. LIST BiB was responsible for the interior fit-out as well as the installation of new building services in the Kupferhalle.
After the demolition work was completed, the general contractor was able to begin the renovation and create 5,219 square meters of new office, meeting, conference, and laboratory spaces for the future tenant. To achieve this, a small intermediate floor—a so-called mezzanine—made of layered concrete was installed in the single-story warehouse. In addition, the roof and skylights—as well as parts of the facade—were replaced. To preserve its industrial charm, the steel structure was also exposed. Furthermore, the basement was converted into an underground parking garage.
Overall, LIST BiB completely revitalized the entire existing building from an energy efficiency standpoint. In the area of building services engineering, the general contractor received support from the in-house planning firm LIST Ingenieure.
