GEG Certificates Bergheim Business Park
In June 2024, Phase 5 International commissioned LIST Eco to prepare GEG certifications for five commercial warehouses. These are part of the planned construction of a new business park in Bergheim, which is to be developed on behalf of Metroloq Projektentwicklung GmbH. The buildings have usable floor areas (Gross Floor Area E00) of approximately 1,390, 3,540, 885, 515, and 1,020 square meters, respectively.
The commissioned services for preparing the GEG verifications for the halls include, in each case: an energy balance analysis in accordance with DIN V 18599; verification of summer thermal protection via thermal simulation in accordance with DIN 4108-2; and the preparation of a component catalog for all components of the building’s thermal envelope. The aforementioned services and verifications were prepared based on the permit application documentation. According to the North Rhine-Westphalia Building Code, GEG verifications are structural engineering verifications that must be submitted to the building authority no later than the start of construction. As part of the verification process, compliance with the requirements of the GEG and other structural engineering regulations regarding primary energy demand, minimum thermal insulation, and the use of renewable energy is assessed.
The GEG Certification:
The GEG certification is a mandatory component of every new construction or renovation project and confirms that a building meets the energy requirements of the Building Energy Act (GEG). It forms the basis for the issuance of a building permit and provides planning certainty regarding compliance with the requirements for primary energy demand, thermal insulation, and the use of renewable energy. At the same time, the certification is an important prerequisite for applying for government subsidies, such as those under the Federal Program for Efficient Buildings (BEG). Furthermore, a GEG-compliant building contributes significantly to reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions, thereby fulfilling key criteria for sustainable construction. The GEG certification thus combines legal requirements with environmental responsibility and economic efficiency.
