Building Physics & Related Sustainability Services Neighborhood in Cologne
With the Deutz Harbor project, a new mixed-use urban district is being developed in Cologne on approximately 37.7 hectares, with space for about 7,000 residents and around 6,000 jobs.
Construction Lot 05 is the first lot in the neighborhood to be developed, thus marking the architectural beginning of the project’s further development. The client is moderne stadt GmbH. The design was created by the architectural firm &mica.
LIST Eco is supporting the project during the early planning phases with specialized building physics planning and supplementary sustainability services. The scope of services includes thermal insulation and energy balancing, building acoustics, and—depending on the building’s use—room acoustics. In addition, LIST Eco is responsible for life cycle assessment (LCA), LCA variant analyses, consulting on setting the level of ambition (including pre-checks for certification), and addressing CO2 optimization and sustainable material and construction concepts.
What makes this project unique is the close integration of building physics and sustainability requirements within an overarching urban development project that will shape the cityscape. Particularly for a project of this scale and with such a role model function, it is crucial to address both disciplines in an integrated manner from the outset in order to identify conflicting objectives and establish a solid foundation for further planning.
